Website Creation

Currently, I do have a wiki set up for my students. The site is msstein.pbwiki.com. However, my wiki is quite makeshift. I by no means would classify this as an effective website in terms of usablitiy, layout, etc. Rather it is a convenient, easy way to upload files and information for my students such as current assignments and weekly homework posts.

Optimally, I would like a more permanent website that provides students information such as homework, files of assignments, areas to showcase projects and homework, and links to other resources such as blogs and wikis. I would like this website to be appealing to the eye and user friendly. Moreover, I want something that can be carried over from year to year for convenience to myself as well as the students.

Perhaps, this website is a creation possiblity as the last project for this class.

Good Web Design in Education

Teaching at a private school, there are two significant reasons why good web design is important.

First of all, web design is a marketing tool. When prospective students review a website, a statement is made about that school. Unorganized and unmaintained websites could be reflective of the school itself, and a website is another media form to promote the excellence or lack there of the school might possess.

Secondly, good web design is vital for communication. Easy access to links and information will allow parents, teachers, and students ways to process and provide information enhancing the education of students. The website at the school I work at was completely revamped at the beginning of this year providing easier access to pictures and information. Parents, teachers, and students alike have commented on the benefits of changing the website to a user friendly format.

Please peruse our group's website critiques to see the remarks I made on my school's website.
