The Critical Impact of Web Page Design

Web design knowlege is critical for instructional technology leaders in the k-12 environment for a number of different reasons. First of all, one needs to consider the practical use of webpages. They are an easy tool for communication purposes for parents, students, and collegues alike. Web pages are not going anywhere anytime soon, and understanding how to create, edit, and revise webpages is a practical tool in our technological times.

Secondly, knowing how to use webpages role models 21st century skills that we want our students to also learn. To be successful in today's society, a solid understanding of technology including web page design is useful. Thus, an awareness of these skills can offer opportunities to teach students these skills as well through various classroom projects.

Perfect Websites?!

In a perfect world, what do you think is the best Website solution for your school/district?

In response to this question, I think that my employer's website is right on track with where it should be professionally. It is updated often, all relevant information is added to the website, and I would classify the website as user-friendly.

Where I would like to see enhancements in our school's website is with teacher ownership. Considering our school has implemented a laptop initiative, our teachers within our school should be the leaders of technology. By example, we should have our own pages attached to the webpage. Perhaps a CMS would benefit teachers with adding their own content easily. Regardless, the only thing I can think of which would enhance the website would be the influence of all teachers communicating and placing content on the webpage for our students.
