Web design knowlege is critical for instructional technology leaders in the k-12 environment for a number of different reasons. First of all, one needs to consider the practical use of webpages. They are an easy tool for communication purposes for parents, students, and collegues alike. Web pages are not going anywhere anytime soon, and understanding how to create, edit, and revise webpages is a practical tool in our technological times.
Secondly, knowing how to use webpages role models 21st century skills that we want our students to also learn. To be successful in today's society, a solid understanding of technology including web page design is useful. Thus, an awareness of these skills can offer opportunities to teach students these skills as well through various classroom projects.
